Please remember that the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be received as soon as a Catholic begins to be in danger of death, including before an invasive surgical procedure. It is part of devout Catholic life to receive Communion in our final days, which is not always possible as a person's condition deteriorates, so it is important to notify the church before a relative's health becomes too grave to receive the strength of this sacrament.
Please inquire at the parish office to plan a funeral.
Normally, families work primarily with the funeral home, who will contact us to confirm arrangements with the church, clergy, and music ministry, as well as the possibility of holding a funeral luncheon using St. Mary's Parish Center.
Located across Central Ave. from St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.
The cemetery is open during daytime hours for visits, prayer, and placing flowers at graves.
On Memorial Day, we usually celebrate Mass in the cemetery as a parish family.
Contact Laurie Horn in the parish office to make arrangements for the burial of your loved one's mortal remains, or to locate a grave.
There is no telling how much a loss might impact our life, or for how long. The St. Mary's community is a community of faith who know this well. Our regular devotions of the Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration are very opportune places to bring your grief before the Lord, with all the memories, thoughts, and emotions you may be feeling. With the Lord Jesus, you are never alone.
